What’s the deal with Square?

Square is a really great service that may not have enough credit card volume to warrant a credit card system or for service type businesses that works in the field.

Check out the Square website for detailed information, however below are some of our observations from using one.

Square works with many different phones and on the iPad.  It charges a flat rate of 2.75% and the money is deposited into your bank account the following business day.  You receive emails telling you a purchase was done and how much will be deposited.  The system meets all security measures.

Your customer gets to sign the receipt and receive a text or email with the information on the charge.  It is quick and a great tool for the field type transactions.  Perfect for lawn mowing, tree services, or farriers.  You never have to take a check and wonder if it will be good again.

We have used Square in our main business as a backup system to our credit card readers.  Sometimes we are in more than two places or in places where the reader doesn’t get cell service, but the iPhone or iPad does.  And, yes, it works on androids also.  It works like a cash register even adding in tax if you want to set it up to do this.

The only negative I have is sometimes it’s hard to hold the reader still enough to read.  Usually I have someone help hold the iPad to run the card.
